How I Learned Self-Worth from Owning a Skincare Brand
I remember when I first launched Triglow Skincare. I was filled with excitement, but also fear. Excited because I was creating something I was passionate about—something that could help people feel more confident in their skin. But the fear? That came from a deep place. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to claim my place in this world. I wasn’t even sure if I was worthy of the success I dreamed of.
In the early days, I did what most people starting out in business do: I overworked myself. I said yes to every order, even when I was tired. I underpriced my products, thinking that if I made them cheaper, more people would buy. I put everyone else’s needs before mine, all the while hoping that in doing so, I’d somehow prove my value. I hoped that if I gave everything I had, others would see me as worthy.
But as time passed, I began to realize something that would change everything: I was giving away my worth. I was undervaluing my time, my effort, and the work I put into each product. It wasn’t just my business that was suffering—it was me.
There’s a moment in every entrepreneur’s journey when the weight of this realization hits. For me, it came when I had a conversation with a customer who praised my products, but then asked for an even bigger discount. They didn’t see the value in what I was offering, and I was allowing it. I remember feeling a sting of frustration, but also a wave of clarity. If I couldn’t see the value in what I was creating, how could anyone else?
That moment was a turning point. I realized that self-worth isn’t something that can be negotiated or discounted. It’s something we decide for ourselves. And if I wanted to truly grow my brand, I needed to start by honoring my own value. I needed to believe that what I created, and the effort I poured into it, was worthy of recognition.
It wasn’t easy. I raised my prices, and for the first time, I said no to clients who didn’t respect my boundaries. I stopped burning the midnight oil for free and started charging for my time. It felt uncomfortable at first—doubt crept in, and I wondered if I was doing the right thing. But every time I stood firm in my decisions, something amazing happened. I started to feel more confident. I started to feel like I deserved the success I had longed for.
I learned that self-worth isn’t just about raising prices or saying no to others; it’s about knowing when to protect your peace and your energy. It’s about understanding that you don’t need to prove your value to anyone. Your worth is inherent, and it’s up to you to embrace it fully.
As I look back on my journey, I realize how much owning Triglow Skincare has shaped me—not just as a business owner, but as a woman who understands the importance of self-respect and self-love. Every product I create now comes from a place of knowing that what I offer is valuable. I don’t need validation from others because I’ve already validated myself.
But the journey isn’t over. I continue to learn and grow, and I’m committed to holding space for others to do the same. So, I want to ask you—what’s your story? How have you learned to value yourself? Have you ever struggled with feeling like you’re not enough, and how did you overcome it? I’d love for you to share your thoughts in the comments below. Let’s have a real conversation about self-worth.
